The 185th Air Refueling Wing black ball cap was the last organizational hat authorized for wear while in uniform by members of the Iowa Air National Guard unit. The black ball cap was allowed to be worn following the unit's conversion from a fighter wing to air refueling in the early 2000s until 2011. Organizational ball caps were no longer authorized in the Air Force following the changeover from the Battle Dress Uniform to the Airmen Battle Uniform around 2011.
