Spc. Michael Stevens, 1-182nd, Bravo Company Infantryman in the Massachusetts National Guard and civilian hospital security guard, shoots an M9 at the 104th Fighter Wing range. The 104th Fighter Wing Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Instructor ensures the Infantrymen from 1st Battalion, 182nd Infantry Regiment, Bravo Company are currently qualified on the M9 pistol. The Massachusetts National Guard Infantrymen are activated in response to COVID-19 to ensure there is enough manpower available to safeguard the 104th Fighter Wing assets and personnel. These precautions are being taken to mitigate any manning shortages that may occur due to unforeseen illness and will allow back up for the wing’s Security Forces. During the pandemic, the infantrymen will be working alongside the 104th Security Forces to reinforce security for the 104th Fighter Wing F-15 homeland defense flying mission to maintain air superiority.(U.S. Air National Guard Photo by Senior Master Sgt. Air Force Selects Westfield’s 104th Fighter Wing to Get the F-35A
The Air Force has selected the Massachusetts Air National Guard’s 104th Fighter Wing based in Westfield as the preferred location to host the service’s next F-35A Lightning II squadron. The F-35A is the Air Force’s latest and most-capable fifth-generation fighter. The F-35A guarantees the long-term viability of the 104th and continuation of its vital air dominance mission for many years to come.
