Colonel Steven M. Reynolds is the Deputy Commander of the 104th Fighter Wing, Barnes Air National Guard Base, Westfield, Massachusetts. In this role, he ensures the unit is mission ready and can effectively support the Homeland Defense mission, expeditionary deployment missions, and the Massachusetts National Guard Domestic Operation Support missions, with the assigned F-35A Lighting II aircraft and over 1000 military and civilian personnel.
Colonel Reynolds enlisted as an Airmen First Class in the Massachusetts Air National Guard on August 27, 1987, where he was assigned to the 104th Aircraft Generation Squadron, Barnes Air National Guard Base, Massachusetts. Upon graduating from the Aircraft Armament Training Course, Lowry Air Force Base, Colorado in March 1988, he served as an A-10 aircraft weapons loader and an aircraft armament crew chief. He graduated cum laude from Bridgewater State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Science and Management, while simultaneously earning his private and commercial pilot’s licenses, and continued serving 14 years in the enlisted force before receiving his commission in 2001 through the Academy of Military Science, McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Knoxville, Tennessee.
In his 39-year career, Colonel Reynolds served as a Maintenance Officer in the 104th Equipment Maintenance Flight, Component Repair Flight, and Munitions Flight. While dual hating as the 104th Security Forces Commander, and the Wing Anti-Terrorism Officer in 2015, he was selected to be National Chair for the Emergency Support Function (ESF) #13 (Public Safety and Security) and ESF #7 (Logistics) for the Domestic Capabilities Priorities Conferences, and again in 2017 and 2018 while serving as the 104th Fighter Wing Installation Deployment Officer. Colonel Reynolds has deployed six times to multiple areas of operations including Italy, Sicily, Kuwait, Iraq, and Africa, in support of Operations DENY FLIGHT, DELIBERATE FORCE, ALLIED FORCE, SOUTHERN WATCH, ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, NEW DAWN, FREEDOMS SENTINEL. Additionally, he was key to the development and integration of the Massachusetts National Guard Reaction Force Law Enforcement Support Unit and its effective deployment in support of the Annual Boston Marathon and Boston July 4th Esplanade. Colonel Reynolds held the position of commander with the 724th Expeditionary Air Base Squadron, Installation Commander, AB201 Agadez Niger, Africa, Commander with the 104th Logistics Readiness Squadron, and Interim Commander of the 104th Mission Support Group. Prior to his current position, the Colonel was the Maintenance Group Commander 104th Fighter Wing, Barnes Air National Guard Base, Westfield, Massachusetts.
