MediaAdvisory: 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Air National Guard Base Will Host Commanders Call and Hometown Heroes Event

On Saturday, September 8 at 3:00 p.m., the 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield will recognize approximately 200 members who deployed over the last year to locations throughout the world. The unit will also present 5 Meritorious Service Medals and a Massachusetts Medal of Merit to exceptional members.

Family members have also been invited to attend the event, and the children of members who deployed will be presented with "We served too" medals. The children's' medals recognizes the hardship deployments create for families and applauds the support given to military members from their parents, spouses, significant others, and children.

"The unit performed admirably overseas," said Col. Robert T. Brooks, 104th Fighter Wing Commander. "The Wing demonstrated its true capabilities by providing a theater security package in the Middle East, participating in the multi-national exercise EAGER LION; all while maintaining our alert commitment back here at home. The dedication of our Airmen is remarkable."

During the Commander's Call, there will also be a Change of Command for the Maintenance Group, recognizing Col. Peter Green as the new commander, vice Lt Col Robert Henry, who will now work on wing's special staff.

"Lt. Col. Henry served with distinction as he led his Group through 8 higher headquarters inspections last year, where the wing received some of the highest recorded grades in Air National Guard History, said," said Col. Brooks. "We look forward to continued success under the new leadership of Col. Green."

Dignitaries who plan to attend the event include Maj. Gen. L. Scott Rice, the acting Adjutant General of the Massachusetts National Guard; Brig. Gen.
Gary Keefe, acting Commander of the Massachusetts Air National Guard; and State Senator Daniel Knapik (Westfield).

Please arrive no later than 2:00 p.m. A Limited opportunity for interviews will occur from 2:00 - 2:30 before
the ceremony begins, there will not be an opportunity for interviews following the event. Ceremony will conclude by 4:00 p.m.
